I'm sad about what Marion Jones did. I think what makes me saddest is that most of her career in the spotlight is a lie. A lot of her life has to do with doping and suspension (from track and field to her boyfriends). I hope she can make the rest of her life more worthwhile.

what's most important in life? an answer that may keep changing.

I'll miss you Kim Clijsters. You've been wonderful every time you step on court. May you enjoy life after tennis at a relatively young age.

I will miss Gilmore Girls. It's one of the few shows that gears toward real life (unlike Lost and Heroes even though I enjoy their alternate realities). Bon Voyage.
And two sports figures made Time's 100 most influential people (Federer and Wang Chien-Ming). That's really cool, considering they're in the same category with Michael J. Fox, George Clooney, and Tyra Banks.

I'm sorry. But I've got to write this out. I don't know how I got into tennis too (considering I used to hate it--but that was because I didn't know how to play it), but once I saw some of the all Williams final at 2003 Wimbledon on TV, I was hooked. The game has changed. The players have changed even more. I just hope the one guy I'm rooting for really will have a long career. Then I can follow him to his very end. He is so cool. Others may not agree (which is why he'll remain nameless), but I love his passion for the game. His joy of winning some remarkable points and most of his championship matches just make me feel so happy inside. I love that he's playing smarter than he's played in the last months. Even though he's not number one, he's the best in my opinion. Besides, if he was as dominant as Federer, he wouldn't need as much support (there's a good chance I wouldn't root for him then). I'd love to meet him one day. The odds are slim, but I may get lucky one day.

May everyone be content with what each person has. Learning is messy. Everyone is smart in different ways. We create an eclectic group. Sometimes the mixes create tragedies. Other times, joy comes through. We should learn to understand each other better.

and so the harvard tradition continues ... from '01 to now, someone's gone to harvard (and they're all girls except on one occasion). maybe more gals will come to smith. and more people to amherst than to duke. the liberal arts colleges are awesome too.

they (and kate york and matt wertz) were awesome at gordon college. I only recognized "flood" and "love song for a savior," but I bought their new CD so all's good. i'm so glad i spent about 5 hours in the van (to and from) to enjoy the music up close and personal (second row! which was totally by luck) and take some pictures (albeit some were blurry because the performers kept moving). boston people (and near-erby people) could have come too. gordon college is about 25 miles from boston. they were way awesome.

two words: andre agassi. somehow, i can't get enough of this guy. neither can the tennis writers and the 20,000+ spectators at arthur ashe stadium. he's so courageous because even though his back hurts more than i can imagine, he still puts everything he has on the court. i can only sit/stand back and watch in awe as he runs for every shot as if it's his last. he surely doesn't seem like a man who's going retire; he can pack out the punches against the younger "tougher and faster" guys. the five setters he's won just add to the person he is--a guy who puts his heart and soul into winning every point no matter how tough the situation. from his hairy days to his bald days, he's certainly given us a lot to look back on, such as his '92 wimbledon final, '99 french open final, and '05 u.s open quarterfinal.
and so i return to school tomorrow. with all the great food i got to eat and all the tennis, movies, and tv shows i got to watch, summer has never been sweeter.

knowing how much of a tv freak i am, i looked up the fall schedules from the five main networks (abc, cbs, nbc, fox, and the [new] cw). and i found out that fox has the best split between the comedies and the dramas (about 6-7 each) while the other four networks each have at least 10 dramas and 4 comedies. and at least one reality show on each network. which shows that comedies are much harder to write and act well as opposed to those in dramas. with 3 csi's, 3 law & order's, and all the shows that resemble them, there really aren't too many shows we haven't seen. how many of these new shows will actually live a full season? so many actors will be jobless after they realize how many people actually watch their shows. but every job's competition. i guess that's how life goes.

some interesting new shows: studio 60 on the sunset strip, 30 rock, heroes, day break, traveler, runaway, twenty good years, friday night lights, the nine, six degrees, vanished. i wonder which ones will last.

agassi will retire in 2 months:( i knew it was coming, but reality stings more than the thought of it. i wish him the best after he hangs up his raquet. now henman is one of the few "old guys" left in men's tennis. the era's not quite over in that respect.

exciting-ness [14 Jun 2006|11:50am]
1. watching movies. 2. reading and watching all the tennis info i can get. 3. watching nadal win (live). 4. watching wimbledon. 5. eating an auntie anne's original pretzel. 6. watching "gameshow marathon." on cbs. 7. going to neiman marcus and noticing how all the items are meant for rich people like bill gates. 8. reading about the rivalry and friendship between martina navratilova and chris evert. 9. watching world cup. 10. eating 4 brands of ice cream in under two weeks (mitchells [only in san francisco], ben & jerry's, haagen dazs, and lapperts at sausalito). 11. sipping jamba juice. 12. staying by union square so macy's, borders, boudin ... five days a week. 13. fisherman's wharf-->cable car ride, clam chowder. 14. eating lots of cherries. 15. having a fireplace (with real fire that turns on and off with a "light" switch) at Yosemite even though the days were usually quite hot. 16. lots of waterfalls. 17. hundreds of pictures. 18. filoli gardens.

a year later is more surreal than before.

yay for priority passes. and yay for nadal. the young spaniard broke the record for the most consecutive wins on (red) clay. i hope he and mauresmo win roland garros. france would be happy and nadal would continue his clay court streak. but we'll see on june 11th.

happy easter. where did the easter bunny come from? i guess it's the same as where the christmas tree came from. anyways, i'd like to find someone who's as passionate about tennis as i am. not in the playing part, but in the watching and keeping score part in professional tennis. i'd like to be able to appreciate watching tennis matches on tv with someone who enjoys the intensity of the game as much or more than i do. maybe someone will want to watch the u.s. open live with me someday. and we can cheer nadal or mauresmo on. or others depending on the time. i admire these athletes so much. they're such inspirations if you get the chance to read/listen to how they face their matches. they're so awesome. i wish i got into tennis 14 years earlier. maybe i could have become one of them.
